Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple hundi counting: Rs 1.34 crore cash, 388 grams gold, 668 foreign notes

A total of Rs 1.34 crore in donations has been recorded during the latest opening of the hundis at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, one of the most visited religious sites in the country. The temple witnesses a steady influx of devotees every day, including visitors from across India and abroad. (Local18)

Offerings From Devotees Across Regions: Devotees visiting the shrine of Meenakshi Amman and Swami regularly contribute offerings as part of their prayers. These donations include not only cash in the form of notes and coins, but also valuables such as gold, silver, and even foreign currency. To manage the large volume of offerings, separate hundis have been installed across all 10 sub-temples within the main temple complex. (Local18)

Collection And Counting Process: The donations from these boxes are collected once every three months. They are then brought to the temple premises, where the hundis are opened and counted in the presence of designated officials to ensure transparency. (Local18)

Breakdown Of Recent Collections: During the latest counting exercise, the temple administration reported a total cash collection of Rs 1,34,50,771, along with 388 grams of gold and 1,245 grams of silver. In addition, 668 foreign currency notes were received. Officials noted that these contributions reflect the growing devotion among visitors and continue to play a vital role in supporting the temple’s upkeep and administration. (Local18)
