Ronaldo, Messi reimagined by Lego: Football icons join hands for World Cup ad

Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as Lego characters? Well for football fans, this is now a reality as the Portugal and Argentina stars join hands for a collaboration with the famous toy brand ahead of the World Cup 2026.

LEGO is tapping into football fever ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, teaming up with global superstars Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Vincius Jnior. The new collection brings fans closer to the sport by transforming these icons into LEGO minifigures, each designed to reflect their individuality and on-field persona.

The range features collectable sets that highlight their journeys, playing styles and includes subtle easter eggs for fans to uncover. From cinematic "Football Highlights" builds to premium "Football Legends" sets centred around Ronaldo and Messi, the collection offers fans a chance to build, showcase and uniquely celebrate the game.

Each set is designed on a letter-shaped base, incorporating colours inspired by the players' national teams, along with jersey numbers and a collectible plaque. A LEGO minifigure of each player adds to the experience, bringing the moments to life. Speaking about the collaboration, Ronaldo said, "It's not every day you get to be transformed into a LEGO set!"

Along with this, they have a sensational ad that has already shown that the battle lines have been drawn between the teams and the star players.

For Messi and Ronaldo fans, this is the second time that the stars are coming together for a World Cup ad. During the 2022 World Cup campaign, they both collaborated for an ad with Louis Vutton.

MESSI, RONALDO SET FOR BIG CHALLENGES

Messi will be out to defend his crown, while Ronaldo will be aiming for his World Cup. Argentina are grouped with Algeria, Austria and Jordan in Group J. Portugal will square off with Colombia, Jamaica and Uzbekistan.

If everything goes to plan and Argentina and Portugal win their groups, then both teams will meet in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, setting the stage for another Ronaldo vs Messi encounter.
