It started with a crash on a quiet road in Florida, but what came out later made the situation even more serious. Tiger Woods, one of the biggest names in golf, was seen in newly released police footage looking dazed, sweating heavily, and struggling to stay alert. The video, shared by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, shows moments right after his accident on Jupiter Island.
According to officials, the 50-year-old crashed his SUV on Friday while trying to pass another vehicle. Police later said he showed signs that he was not in a proper state to drive. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to take a urine test. The footage has now raised more questions about what really happened that day.
Tiger Woods explains crash as police find opioid pills and signs of impairment
In the bodycam video, Tiger Woods is seen kneeling on the roadside as officers check on him. He looks tired and unsteady. While speaking to an officer, he clearly says, “I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden… boom!” He explained that he hit the back of a trailer while trying to overtake on a two-lane road.
Police later shared in the arrest report that Woods admitted he was also changing the radio at that moment. The crash caused his vehicle to roll onto its side, and he had to crawl out.
As officers continued their checks, they noticed more worrying signs. His eyes were described as bloodshot and glassy, and his pupils were very dilated. During a search, police found two pills marked “M367” in his pocket. These pills contain hydrocodone, a strong pain medication. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, opioids like this can be highly addictive.
In another part of the video, filmed inside the police car, Woods appears extremely quiet. He yawns repeatedly, struggles with hiccups, and at one point even falls asleep briefly. He does not speak much during the ride.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters that Woods was “limping and stumbling” during a field test. He added, “He showed signs of impairment,” and said officers believed some form of medication may have affected him. Woods agreed to a breath test, which showed no alcohol, but refused a urine test.
The sheriff also said Woods was driving at high speed in a 30 mph residential area while trying to pass a pressure cleaning truck. Officials could not confirm his exact speed.
This is not the first time Woods has faced a situation like this. Back in 2017, he was found asleep behind the wheel and later said it was due to a mix of prescription drugs.
Speaking to reporters in Miami, Donald Trump reacted to the news and said, “I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person. Amazing man. But, some difficulty!”
