18-year-old Martina Devi Maibam is representing India in the women’s +86kg weightlifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. On Thursday (July 30), she successfully lifted 105kg in her third snatch attempt.

The teenager, who is making her Commonwealth Games debut, attempted 103kg in her first two snatch attempts but failed to register a successful lift on both occasions. Staring at elimination ahead of the clean and jerk round, Martina came out for her third and final snatch attempt. To everyone’s surprise, she increased the weight to 105kg instead of retrying 103kg. Unlike her first two attempts, however, she completed the lift with ease.

It was a special moment for the young Indian weightlifter, who broke down in tears after successfully lifting 105kg.
