The highly anticipated clash, scheduled to begin at 12:30 AM IST on July 16, carries immense significance for the Three Lions. A victory over Lionel Messi’s Argentina would send England into the FIFA World Cup final for the first time since 1966.
England have reached the World Cup final only once in their history. In 1966, they defeated West Germany 4-2 after extra time at Wembley Stadium to lift their maiden and only World Cup title. Harry Kane’s men now stand just one win away from matching that historic feat after nearly six decades.
Ahead of the semifinal, England captain Harry Kane shared four pictures from the team’s training session on X and posted a six-word message that quickly went viral among fans:

England and Argentina have faced each other five times in FIFA World Cup history. The Three Lions hold the edge with three wins, while one match ended in a draw and Argentina have won once.
However, Argentina have enjoyed greater success in knockout meetings. The two sides have met three times in World Cup knockout matches, with England winning only the 1966 quarterfinal.

A goal against Argentina would see him surpass Gary Lineker’s record for the most goals scored by an England player in a single World Cup edition. Lineker scored six goals in five matches during the 1986 tournament.
Kane is not the only England player enjoying a prolific campaign. Jude Bellingham has also netted six goals in the ongoing tournament, meaning both stars are one goal away from setting a new national record.
